What makes the African region (and Kenya in particular) so attractive to the Belarusian companies? And how can the Kenya International Trade Exhibition promote diversification of the Belarusian export to the continent?

Six out of ten fastest growing world economies are African. The continent is seeing dynamic urbanization, setup of essential living and production infrastructure, rapid development of agriculture. According to expert forecasts, in terms of economic power Africa will be the “new China” in 15-20 years.

Belarus keeps up trading relations with half of the African states. Key fields of cooperation: machine-building, agriculture; healthcare, education and IT services. However, the total deliveries to the African countries from Belarus do not reach potential values in real terms – in the first half of 2021 they reached 183.2 USD Million.

The best prospects are not only in ramp-up of mutual trade with the countries of the continent, but also in export diversification, extension of economic and industrial cooperation. It is essential for our companies to reach the new heights of project cooperation, to build strong business communication and process flows. In addition to conventional export range to the countries of the region, the Belarusian companies can deliver sci-tech and production practices in industry and agriculture, energetics and transport to this market,” noted Mr. Dmitry Koltsov, Head of the Department of Africa and the Middle East under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

Today the Government of Kenya is implementing the Big Four program. It stipulates provision of state and private companies with state-of-the-art production, and citizens - with quality food products, healthcare services and affordable housing. Kenya is actively developing the agribusiness industry – the AIC has 35 percent of GDP. Given this, the state imports food, farming machinery, fertilizers, chemical crop protection agents and many others.

In 2019 Belarus presented the National Pavilion at the International Food, Hospitality & Agriculture Exhibition FoodAgro for the first time. This exhibition is a part of the Kenya International Trade Exhibition. The event was visited by over 5400 people. As a result of the Belarus-Kenya Business Forum, timed to the exposition, agreements were signed on construction of a concrete plant and a fish-breeding farm. Besides, agreements were reached on delivery of Belarusian car and tractor machinery to Kenya to the total of 20 USD Million.

This time the Belarusian exposition in Kenya is aimed at strengthening and increasing these achievements. The KITE exhibition covers a wide range of topics: machine-building, energetics, farming machinery, furniture and interior design, food. In 2022 the exhibition will feature over 130 companies from 20 countries. Belarus will have a status of the Official Country Partner. Apart from Belarus, the national pavilions will be showcased by Iran, Italy and Turkey.
